Lia and Tommy planted the first tree in Solkulla Matskog in the fall of 2019. It stemmed from a desire to make the desert green, but ended up digging where they stand, in Kulla outside Örsundsbro. A neglected field is transformed into a forest with food. Beneath the trees of fruit, berries and nuts, shrubs, creepers and perennials grow, providing edible food for humans and pollinators.
Solkulla Matskog is an experience garden where you can see a different way of working with plants. With as little input in the form of labor as possible, the garden is created from year to year using the plants' own design language. Materials that others throw away are used so as not to burden the climate with new purchases. Wood from demolished barns, scrap metal, but of course also locally produced things spark the imagination and creativity.
In the flower beds next to the house, edibles mix with flowers and grapes. There are sand beds and mound beds for kitchen plants and wild parts for diversity. A greenhouse provides a longer growing season. The microclimate possibilities of the plot are exploited for more heat-sensitive trees, such as walnut, edible chestnut, peach, quince, minikivi and mulberry.
