Times for the 2024 season will be announced in March. Start at 11.00 at Kaplanen. Rådhusgatan 2. The two guides Elisabet and Eva will take you on an exciting, informative and enjoyable walk in the central parts of Enköping. The story of Enköping's famous parks and the city's long, exciting history are intertwined. The walk goes through the older parts where the city emerged in the early Middle Ages, Eva tells how people lived here from the Middle Ages onwards. During the archaeological excavations carried out in the 2010s, completely new facts emerged that mean that the city's history had to be partly rewritten. Eva talks about how the city developed due to trade, monastic activities, horseradish cultivation and how Enköping was put on the map because of a wrench.
Elisabet tells the story of how an innovative urban gardener came to town, started and pushed through the transformation that today has become Enköping's major tourist attraction. She talks about how perennials, shrubs, trees and bulbs are combined to create different spaces and environments. About how perennials are used in large areas all over the city, in parks, roundabouts, in refuges, along streets and in squares. The walk goes through one of the smaller pocket parks embedded in the urban environment and to one of the larger parks. The tour ends in Drömparken, created by Piet Oudolf, known for his spectacular compositions of tall and colorful perennials. His most famous works besides the Dream Park in Enköping are The Millennium Park in Chicago, The Battery Park and The High Line Park in New York. The tour takes about 2 hours.
