Welcome to the cradle of the Svea kingdom! Fjärdhundraland has its origins in the medieval folk country of Fjädrundaland. You travel on beautiful small roads lined with rune stones, through a medieval landscape. The small churches are more densely packed than on Gotland, and the place names ring with history.The Örsunda River, today a beautifully tranquil river, was an important artery in the Viking Age that supplied the rich areas of Fjärdhundraland and Birka with the iron needed to build prosperity.Travel slowly through Fjärdhundraland, stop often, imagine yourself on horseback instead of in a Volvo. For the weekend, June 1 and 2, it is time for the spring market at Dunderbo candles & crafts. The market has become an appreciated tradition with a rich selection of handicrafts, summer flowers and edible delights. At 11 and 13 there are guided tours on the Krigsstigen.
