Österunda church is a typical white-plastered Upland medieval church with the red bell tower on a hill just next to it. Construction of the church began in the late 13th century and in the second half of the 15th century the interior was filled with paintings by Albertus Pictor. (In Balingsta, not far from here, a skier is carved on a rune stone. Skiing has ancient roots in Uppland!) Albertus Pictor. The paintings in the Österunda have been whitewashed and are therefore not in as good condition as Albertus Pictor's paintings in Härnevi or Härkeberga.
The church is beautifully situated and the lawn behind the belfry is a nice picnic place.
