Örsundaån is the artery through Fjärdhundraland. Here, goods and people have been transported since time immemorial. The river was not the unassuming watercourse it is today, but a mighty river that could carry the ships of the Viking Age, directly into the sea.
In the Viking Age and the Middle Ages, Fjärdhundraland was a large country, gathered around Örsundaån and Enköpingsåsen. Thanks to the river and the ridges, people could travel and shop in the entire large area, which ended in the north at Färnebofjärden, and in the south in Birka.
