Tourism in Fjärdhundrabygden was a three-year Leader project (with the support of the Leader Norra Mälarstranden) aimed at promoting and developing rural tourism north of Enköping. Despite good conditions with beautiful scenery, rich culture, good communications and many local food producers, the area was basically unknown to visitors. The goal of the project was to network the existing players together and facilitate new start-ups. The goal was, if the work was successful, to form an economic association to ensure continued operations.
project managers Katja Jahn and Ylva Fontell started with an inventory of what was in tourism in the area (not much) and what people had ideas (many). Then they made sure that everyone met and that working groups were formed, in areas such as food, housing, nature & culture and marketing. When the project was over, the ball was rolling and the economic association could be formed.
The positive effects of the project were many, lots of new contacts and collaborations were created, new businesses were established and future faith became strong. Through a strong focus on everyone winning on collaboration, a very positive spirit was created that extended far beyond the actual hospitality industry.
